Life after Ms. Hughes
I think that the rest of this marking will be relatively easy compared to the first two marking periods where we learned about books that were very old and had not relevance to our culture today. I think that the things they carried is much more interesting Beowulf, Hamlet, even 451 and BNW. This marking period should seriously help my grade since all that has to be done is read and take a quiz on comprehension. The subject matter also helps to keep me interested inthe class and actually pay attention. While this last half won't be as easy as the first half was under Ms. Hughes, I think that it will still be easier than our previous three marking periods. There's only six weeks to go and we already survived most of the year.

I disagree. I really HATE what we are doing now. I feel that there is no substance to being quizzed on things we didn't even go over, and it's not like we can find an anaylsis of these poems online--i've already looked. I like poetry, but not poetry that needs to be explained to me line by line. I prefer to enjoy what I read, not get a headache trying to read it. I understand his point on quizzing us everyday, which is fine when the quizzes are on the notes we took the day before. That is just Laz making sure everyone is on top of things, which is fine. I think its unfair to be quizzed on reading that is just beyond our comprehension, I would rather go over it in class first so I can get a full understanding of the reading.
I'll admit too that its going to be very tough for us to do this. We're basically analyzing the poems on our own and then are quizzed on what we "think" the poems are about. Believe me its tough and not many of us are going to do well, but LAz is really trying to get us prepped for college. If it means that he does these hard assignments to make us better students so be it cause guess what when college comes around we're going to be kicking butt...
i would be so quick to judge the earlier readings we've done. Sure its easy to just card them off as being old and boring but try and not have a closed mind and you realize that those books we're really well read and desewrve the research that has been put into them, I mean when a story stays around for that long there has to be something substantial to it. As far as working with laz compared to hughes i'm glad to have him back. don't get me wrong hughes can be cool but having a teacher with a few years under his belt and more personality really helps me get through class. I'm excited to be doing poetry cause it forces me to read criticly every word rather than in the books where there are critical sections. i don't mind doping a little bit of extra research on my own to understand what hes saying cause i really don't understand it when i read it by my self
