mi amigo John Donne

I actually love all of these poems by John Donne. They are hard as anything to understand. However the concepts and comparisons are very deep and really make you think. I have had to have help understanding each one. But once I understand them, I really don't want to class discusion to end. Moreover, these poems make you take a look at your own life and how love or whatever the subject may be fits into your life.

I agree that John is really an amazing man. Whether if he meant to put this much meaning into his poems or not its amazing to see the thought behind these poems when we analyze it. His religious background is second to none, which makes all of his poems some how tied into religion even if it really can't be noticed when reading them. The Holy Sonnets are so deep when it comes to religion its almost unthinkable, and his other poems like "The Flea" despite not being directly related to religion are fantastic for a number of hidden meanings within the context. He's tough to understand, but man what a poet!

Donne does use remarkable wit and judgement with his poems. It's interesting to read what he wrote and then understand what he really is saying. "The Flea" has reasoning in it that not many people would have thought of and its easy to imagine the amount of intense work Donne did to create his poems.

I am in total agreeance with you. John Donne is one of the first authors whos works I've read in school and actully liked. The flea was so deep and meaningful. I plan on reeading some more if his works...especially his holy sonnets.

I too really enjoy his work, and The Flea was great. His poetry is the type that you have re-read several times to get the full impact and even after you have theres always more to be discovered.
